LOVING ARMS CHILDCARE CENTER

Loving Arms Childcare Center Receives ExceleRate Illinois Silver Circle of Quality Designation - Shows Continuous Quality Improvement Commitment to Children in Oswego

Loving Arms Childcare Center received the Silver Circle of Quality designation from ExceleRate Illinois, the state's new quality recognition and improvement system for early learning and development providers.

"Every early learning and development provider who participates in ExceleRate Illinois makes quality a priority," said Gail Nelson, QRIS Policy Director, Governor's Office of Early Childhood Development.  "The higher the designation, the higher the program's demonstrated quality and comprehensiveness in meeting children's early learning needs," she said.

"We are proud to receive the Silver Circle of Quality," said Lisa Dickey, Loving Arms Childcare Center.  "Providing quality in early learning and development will help our children in Oswego be better prepared for success in school and in life."

ExceleRate Illinois helps families make more informed choices about their children's early learning.  It establishes standards to help infants, toddlers and preschoolers develop intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally.  Additionally, it provides a framework for early learning and development professionals to identify opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Research in science and brain development shows that children who are more meaningfully engaged in early learning experiences from infancy through the first five years of life are more likely to be successful in school and in life.  With the right engagement, children can form a healthy foundation of neural pathways in the brain, which impact their ability to think, react, process and grow.

ExceleRate Illinois is a comprehensive system that includes Licensed Child Care Centers, Licensed Family Child Care, Preschool for All and Center-Based Prevention Initiative Programs, Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.

For more information or to find a Child Care Resource & Referral Agency in your area, visit:  www.ExceleRateIllinois.com

ExceleRate Illinois is administered through INCCRRA under the joint direction of the Governor's Office of Early Childhood Development, the Illinois Department of Human Services, and the Illinois State Board of Education

VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISSION OF KENDALL COUNTY

Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans
The Veterans Assistance Commission is currently accepting donations of non perishable foods to donate to Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans with the ultimate goal of filling the VACKC’s bus that typically travels to Hines for veteran’s medical appointments!  A bit of information about Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans: They have two specific houses, the Tammy and Miller House, that are respectively for females and males.   They assist in getting veterans off the streets, offering employment support services, all while giving them very low rented out rooms.

We have donated here before and they are beyond appreciative of the support from VACKC and the community.  We are asking for the community’s help in getting the word out.   Donations for non perishable foods will be accepted by the VACKC office at 811 West John St. Yorkville (aka the Health Department/Health and Human Services) and are accepted until April 29th when our office will be at Plano Walmart to let people know our office exists and we’re here to help.  Donations have been pouring in and we are excited to Fill Our Bus! We have also been receiving hygiene items and gently used puzzles/books which will also be donated to the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans.  The community has been very supportive when it comes to the Veterans Assistance Commission of Kendall County and our outreach efforts and we appreciate everything!!

Our office has partnered up with other organizations and has more donation drop-off points;  we have one in our office at the Health Department, the County Office Building on Fox St, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department, Senior Services, local American Legions and more!  Please let us know if you would like your location highlighted as a donation location! All questions can be directed to Olivia Laschober at 630-553-8354 M-F 8-4pm.

PLANO COMMUNITY GARDEN

Updates for 2017
The Plano Community Garden has started planning for the 2017 growing season. Our produce goal is 7000-8000 pounds of fresh produce for the Kendall County Community Food Panty.

The Garden is proud to announce that we made our goal and will be building our new larger shed. Hopefully, when Mother Nature decides to stop rain, we can get started with the building.

The garden is now excepting applications for garden plots. A 20 X 20 plot is $25. You can go to the gardens Facebook page and down load the application. Our application is now in English and Spanish.

Anyone wishing to volunteer may contact Connie Hatter at (630) 552-0221 or Hillard Bryant at (630) 552-3720.  The garden is always looking for volunteers.

A big thank you to several of the Kendall County Master Gardeners and Plano Community Garden who on Wednesday March 29 helped YMCA kids start plants for their garden that they will be taking care of later this summer. The Garden donated all the seeds, peat pots,  seed starting mix, and arranged for the Master Gardeners to help. The YMCA will be donating some of their produce to the food pantry.

GRACE HOLISTIC CENTER FOR EDUCATION

Greetings Friends and Agents of Change,

As we come around the final turn of the first year of Grace Holistic Center for Education a horse named “Fate” and a horse named “Free Will” are neck-and-neck. The finish line appears on the horizon for the final push. At this, the most critical leg of the race, the announcer strains his vocal cords to make the call. One thing is certain, this is a Call to Action. Now more than ever, we need this call to resound within your heart. The fate of Grace Holistic Center for Education lies in the hands of our loyal supporters, you.

This not-for-profit was created as a hallmark, not only of academic achievement, but as a place we can foster all aspects of a child’s growth in community. We know that during these times, it takes a village. GHCFE is that place, a home of true learning. We strive to keep that village alive and breathing with a palpable heartbeat that all can hear.

Our integrative curriculum encompasses mind, body, spirit awareness, and achievement. Its programming includes: sensory garden, pet therapy room, aquaponics, mindfulness, yoga, Spanish immersion, global and community involvement). GHCFE also cultivates active parent involvement, along with expanding global citizenship through service.

We cannot risk losing the opportunity to provide this integrative programming to our community. Over fifty children and their families are counting on us, on you. Our enrollment is almost at capacity for next year! We need your financial support to take us around the last lap of the finish line. Please help us continue to create a diversity in educational programming at this paramount time in our great country. We hope you will join us at the finish line with Grace Holistic Center for Education.

In gratitude for your consideration and support,

Tairi Grace LCSW, RYT

Mother’s Day – May 14
Moms are often the unseen and unpraised heroes in everyone’s life. Without the activity and wonderful accomplishments of moms, most of us would have never graduated high school, applied for college, or got our first job. Moms often work behind the scenes remaining unseen, but they are the true heroes in our lives. On Sunday, May 14, New Life Church will “Celebrate Moms” - the unseen, unrealized heroes. Join us at 9:00 or 10:30 a.m. and bring your mom, sister, daughter, granddaughter, niece, or other special lady in your life along with you as we "Celebrate Moms"! There will be a special gift for every daughter, mother, and grandmother, and an opportunity for families to have professional-looking family photos taken before and after each worship service at no cost.
